Holistic Treatment Programs
With so many different holistic rehab programs available today, it’s hard to determine exactly which one would be a right fit for you.
Some offer music therapy, some have you walk on hot coals, others are slightly more traditional in their approach using vitamins and supplementation. Not all people will react the same way to any particular treatment program. What worked for person A may not work for person B. Or, even odder, what worked for person A may not have worked for person A three years earlier. It really depends on where the person is currently in their life and if they really want the help or not.

That really is step one – does the person honestly want the help? If the answer is no and they’re fighting you tooth and nail then it really doesn’t matter what treatment program you select for them as they aren’t ready for change. A little willingness goes miles in the treatment world, especially the holistic treatment world, and can make a world of difference. Even if the person says they don’t have a problem or don’t want help but is going along with you, there’s a chance at success. If they’re telling you no I’m not going and you force them onto a plane, you’re better off paying for the taxi ride to and from an AA program until they come around.

Now that we have that harmful piece of reality out of the way let’s address the different types of holistic treatments currently available. Sweat lodges and sauna programs act as a follow up holistic approach to the modern medicine version of the medical cessation. The purpose of all three is to rid the body of drugs, alcohol, and medications. The sweat lodge and sauna program, however, act as additional means to remove the toxins that remain after someone has successfully come off of medications. Both the sweat lodge and sauna program would never be performed on someone who is currently on drugs or medications. Sweat lodges and sauna programs also feature trained staff to keep and eye on the clients throughout the process to ensure there are no safety hazards.

Modern medicine has missed one area of drug relapse that is being addressed through alternative means and that would be drug residues. These residues are stored within the body, in some cases the fatty tissues, and cause a person to crave drugs. Until these residues have been removed, a person will have to live their life “one day at a time” without drugs until they die. By removing these residues from the body, cravings physical cravings are eliminated. Notice I said physical cravings, the mental cravings side still exists and needs to be treated differently from the physical side.

Group talks, music, acupuncture, yoga, even television all act as a means of switching a person’s mental focus away from cravings. A person who is not focused on cravings in one who is not likely to want something. This goes along with the old saying “out of sight out of mind.” Group talks help a person address the original issues as to why they needed something in the first place. Music, acupuncture, and yoga help a person become more comfortable with themselves, thus allowing them to release whatever was previously causing the program in the first place.

Through the use of nutrition people are able to feel good both mentally and physically. When a person feels good, they don’t feel the need for additional substances to enter the body. By ident ing a person’s particular eating patterns, diets can be created that provide them with the substances they need to function at optimum capacity. Food types range from personality to blood type. Just like your mother told you growing up “you are special and unique.” By calling holistic treatment centers you can determine if they offer what you are looking for. Some may be more comfortable with certain situations than others, but the only way to find out if a program is right for you is to call and ask questions.
