Anxiety is more than just a feeling. As a product of the body’s fight-or-flight response, anxiety involves a wide range of physical symptoms. Because of the numerous physical symptoms, anxiety sufferers often mistake their disorder for a medical illness. They may visit many doctors and make numerous trips to the hospital before their anxiety disorder is discovered. Common physical symptoms of anxiety disorder include a pounding heart, sweating, nausea and shortness of breath. You may also experience muscle soreness, headaches, fatigue and insomnia.

Anxiety disorder often rears its ugly head with no warning at all. You may experience episodes of extreme panic or fear. During these episodes, the terror can be so severe that you feel as if you’re about to die or totally lose control. The physical symptoms are themselves so frightening that many people think they’re having a heart attack. People with anxiety disorder are chronic worrywarts and feel anxious nearly all of the time. Anxiety disorder is awful, frightening, and frustrating. Anxiety disorder can be brought under control with the right medications but there is no quick fix or medical cure.
