Alternative Health Medicine
Alternative health medicine means different things to different people. There is no end in sight to the debate that rages on between doctors who believe that drugs are the answer to all our ills and the naturalists who swear that drugs are the main reason for all our ills.
The former, while admitting that prevention is better than cure, also holds firm to the belief that it is necessary to go through the proper channels of medical care. The latter however, believe in a more natural approach, one that eschews chemicals and other compounds that disturb the natural balance in the human body and focuses on a wholesome and holistic healing process that is in no way synthetic.
Alternative health medicine encompasses many different approaches. In medicine today, people demand to be cured immediately, and the demand for medicines and treatments that do so is very high. For example, if you have a fever you can take aspirin to lower it, if your cholesterol is high, you can take prescribed drugs to reduce it, and if you have heartburn you take an antacid. Traditional medicines focus is primarily on eliminating the symptoms of the disease and treatment methods are surgery and drugs.
People are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Today, more and more people are seeking alternative health medicine as traditional medical doctors fail them. Many people are fed up with costly and ineffective treatments. A new healing paradigm which promotes health and prevention is less costly than curing. We simply can’t afford conventional medicine anymore.
Alternative health medicine treats the patient as a whole, taking into account their environment and other factors. Millions of Americans suffer from headaches, allergies, fatigue, fibromyalgia, weight gain, and chronic pain on a daily basis without realizing that they are actually suffering from exposure to environmental toxins, common foods, and chemicals. We live in a toxic world where pollution, chemicals, and allergens constantly bombard our bodies.
It makes sense to focus on the roots and causes rather than medicating symptoms. Alternative health medicine digs deeper to find out the cause of symptoms. Alternative health medicine emphasizes prevention. Learning and healing go hand in hand. The idea here is to take steps before you get sick. Treatment is basically just part of the healing process, but the body is doing the work. Making connections between the mind and body can truly have a positive impact on your overall health and well being. Rather than prescribing antibiotics or other medications, alternative health medicine attends to strengthening the body and ultimately letting the body heal itself. Alternative health medicine shifts the focus to interactions among the brain, mind, body, and behavior, with the intent to use the mind to affect physical functioning and promote health. The concept that the mind is important in the treatment of illness is an integral approach of alternative health medicine.
